Aprons

This year for Christmas I decided to make some aprons for my sister in laws. I bought a new pattern online and went to the fabric store where I found some cute prints. And this is what I came up with:

The pattern was by chic sisters. I liked it but I added a pocket and made the neck strap adjustable. I also adapted a cute half apron from the pattern as well.

Stockings

I finally got to making Lorelei her very own stocking this year! She picked fabric out of my stash that had horses on it because she loves horses. I also made Elena one too. I traced out a shape of a stocking that I had and then cut it in to pieces with seam allowances and sewed it all together. I quilted the front on a piece of cotton and lined them in red felt. I thought red rick rack was cute for the loop to hang the stocking. Which after I was done Lorelei thought that she should hang them on the tree. The backing I used the black fabric for Lorelei’s stocking (the one that has horses, she has five horses on her stocking.) and Elena’s stocking I used that mittens fabric. I went to my Moms to struggle with her embroidery machine to get the girls names on top. I am happy with how they turned out!

little neck ties…

My house is full of pink. I guess that is what happens when you have two little girls. My sister in law had her third boy a month ago so when we had a baby shower for him I wondered what I should do. Since I often make girly things. She says Simon is her last baby and didn’t want “baby stuff”. So when I came across a tutorial to make little boy ties I thought it was perfect. I used this tutorial from the blog Sharing the Wealth for the neck ties (I did add some length to one of the ties since it was for a almost 5 year old) and this tutorial for the onesie from the blog Crap I’ve Made. I have to say for all three pieces it took about an hour and they were super easy. I hope they look awesome for church!

Rainbow Cupcakes…

So my little crazy two year old princess loves rainbows right now. So when I saw some layers of the rainbow cupcakes I figured it would be a fun rainy day activity! I used a basic white cake recipe and separated it into six bowls. Mixed the colors and went from there. This is how they turned out:

Lorelei was one happy girl! It was worth all the work that was involved. Don’t worry she shared some with her cousins.

Vinyl Sign Love!

So I went to a girls craft night the other night to make my very first vinyl sign. It was fun, a lot of work but fun. We did a Hallowe’en themed board. Last minute touch was antiquing it with orange paint. i plan on putting a ribbon across the top too. What do you think?

I think that I really should get a cutter machine for Christmas, my birthday or even mother’s day! *hint, hint* I was thinking of the new silhouette cameo that is being released in october:

I am wanting to do more projects that is for sure. Here are a few that I have been eyeing:

NEW Family Rules Subway Art Typography Word Art Sign - Your Choice of Color

That is only a few. There are so many out there. Also I would want to do some vinyl wall decals too. Like these:

That little machine can also cut paper of course and there are tons of projects to do. I have to say I am excited about how it can cut fabric. You can cut flowers for appliques for t-shirts or dresses. Shapes for hair clips. So many thing to do. If only I had the time, the machine and the supplies! One day maybe… Until then more girls craft nights.

Crochet Headband.

So I made this headband for Elena for our family pictures a few weeks ago. I must start with saying I do not know how to crochet but I do know how to finger crochet. It is pretty easy. Here is a YouTube video to show you how or you can use a hook and do it properly.

I followed this tutorial. From the blog You Seriously Made That.

The only thing that I changed was I did not use ribbon to tie it closed. I got a hair elastic and hot glued it to either side where the ribbon is that way it was easier to put on Elena’s head. Here are some pictures of her wearing it! I also did not do a good job at counting the chain. I just made it until I thought it was long enough.

Once upon a time…

About 8 months ago I made this quilt. My first quilt and I am oh so very proud of it. Although with being pregnant and then having a new born blogging didn’t happen much. I am going to try to be better. I have a few projects to share with you and upcoming ones too!

So I used a pattern from Sew, Mama, Sew. You can find it here. I had bought a charm pack last year called Love U by Deb Strain. Super Cute! I bought quilting cottons fabric from the local fabric store for the binding and sashing and some white minky for the backing. The only thing that I changed was I added a border piece to the sides. It was a super easy first quilt now I just need to get back to Lorelei’s that I started a long, long time ago.

Another Apron…

It has been too long since I have posted anything but I have done some projects. I should take a moment to take some pictures so I can make some blog posts! I made this apron for a friends surprise birthday party.

It was a super easy project. I cut out a large rectangle hemmed along three sides. Then cut three 5 inch strips the same length as the width of the apron iron them in half, sew them together add them to the apron for waistband and ties. Then drew out a pocket, cut out two, sew them together inside out, turned it through and sewed a pocket on the front. Make sense?!?!?! It was the first time I sat at the sewing machine for months and I didn’t even use a pattern!

Fabric Flower…

So a while back I made a fabric flower as a request from a client of my Mom’s. I made a pink one as a sample with what I had at home. She loved it so I made an ivory one with organza and satin, then put a ton of beads in the center. Sadly I forgot to take a picture of it. The pink one remained with me sad in the closet until I had my new beautiful girl. I pulled it out put a big pink rhinestone in the middle and here you have it!

It was pretty simple to make. I drew out a large flower and a medium flower as a pattern. Cut out two of each of them. Then for the center I drew our a petal and cut out five of them. Then light a candle and very carefully melted the edges. I layered all the pieces together and then either put beads or a rhinestone in the middle. I attached the flower to a hair clip and then had a beautiful prop for pictures.

PS. if you are to make one of these on your own make sure the fabric will melt and not burn. It needs to be synthetic not a natural fiber.

Let me introduce Elena for those who haven’t met her yet…

Little Monster…

A few weeks ago I made this little guy for a friend who had a baby. I had been waiting for a baby boy to come around to try out the pattern I found. I have to say I think he turned out pretty darn cute!

If you want to make your own little monster the tutorial is found on the RevoluzZza blog.

Life gets in the way!

So I have stopped babysitting for the month of January to help me have the time to get a few things done before the baby comes. I have a glider/rocker that my sister in law gave me that I need to recover. I have a baby quilt the I have put together just sitting waiting to be quilted….

I bought this awesome book to make a new diaper bag. I am pretty excited about the projects in it. Simple and cute! Let me know if you want to come take a peek!

But I then got sick. I haven’t done anything not even clean my house! First Lorelei got sick so I was busy taking care of her and then she gave it to me and now I have a rotten ear infection! Being sick and pregnant is the worst! I do hope that i feel better for when this baby decides to arrive! And maybe just maybe I will get a few things done that I wanted too!

Lorelei’s Apron

I made an apron for Lorelei for Christmas since we gave her a play kitchen. I thought she would love it. So it turns out she really doesn’t want much to do with it only wearing a few times since Christmas but I am sure she will use it more as she gets older. Oh and she also seems to want it on when she see me put mine on, which is cute!

I used a old children’s apron as a pattern and also looked at a few tutorials for tips. Afterwards I decided to fully line the apron, so the inside is the pocka dot fabric like on the ties and pockets. I also decided to use d-rings to the neck so I only had to tie the waist band.
