Question

Well to my few followers I have a question. Do you think that a granny square quilt should be made out of only scraps or could I make one out of precuts? My little sister has my name for Christmas and I was thinking of asking her to get me enough of these Mini Charm packs:

To make one of these:

What is your opinion?

I'm a new follower (hello! I think I came over from Finish it Up Friday?), and I made MY granny squares out of two charm packs. It worked great. I felt like the color families were already matched up and well-defined, and building the squares went quickly because I could just play and combine fabric. Love Cuzco. Do it!

I do like the scrappiness you get when you have a more random selection. I actually made a few squares from some bits of precuts as long as you can get enough variation in the squares it should work well. I made my granny square quilt with more controlled scrappiness and that worked. http://cathy-blueberrypatch.blogspot.ca/2012/04/granny-squares-quilt-finish.html

Fabulous idea - get her to get you the fabric - the colours will tone but be sort of scrappy as well.
